The looong wait for South African service providers to
bring us Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy SII.
While
impatiently waiting for MTN to catch up with the rest of the world my phone went
into crazy mode:· Switching to Drive Mode out of the blue
· Battery running hot and draining even when not it use
· Keypad freezing then switching between alphanumeric and numeric modes
DIY
Jelly Bean update
After
a few weeks of charging my phone twice a day and restarting it numerous times I
decided stuff it, I’m a techie and I have the power of google at my disposal. I
found the info and did the manual firmware upgrade without a hitch and now Jelly
Bean has me smitten with my Galaxy SII again. The process is easy; you can
still do it even if you are a non-techie.
In
a nutshell you need:
1. Jelly Bean update
file and Odin app on your computer/laptop, both can be download from the net
2. USB drivers for your
phone on your computer/laptop, can also be downloaded
3. Phone battery is
charged to at least 80% (some say 70%)
4. USB cable
My
googled sourced with all the info you need (Note: Use the correct JB update file for your phone model):
I
did it and so can you…
